Scientist Zac Hobson (Bruno Lawrence) awakes one morning to find himself truly alone. With the rest of humanity having seemingly just vanished overnight, he struggles to cope with the isolation and meaningless of an empty world. When he eventually finds two other survivors, Joanne (Alison Routledge) and Api (Pete Smith), the struggle becomes one for understanding, as the trio piece together what exactly happened, and what they need to do to stay alive…

Geoff Murphy, New Zealand 1985, 15, 91mins

“A cult classic”
Filmcritic.com

“For such a low-budget film, it is beautifully photographed and contains some inspired, yet deceptively simple visual effects”
DVD review

“Few performances equal Bruno’s in The Quiet Earth. I can only think of Spencer Tracey in The Old Man and the Sea to match his solo role. Tracey held the audience for twenty minutes; Bruno kept the audience on the edge of their seats for twice that time”
John O’Shea

“…the kind of film I Am Legend can only dream about being”
