Convinced that it will help him unlock different states of consciousness, Harvard research scientist and psychology professor Eddie Jessup (William Hurt) subjects himself to experiments in sensory deprivation combined with powerful hallucinogenic drugs. Despite experiencing a host of unexplained mental and physical changes, Jessup is determined to continue his research. But the more time he spends in the isolation tank, the more extreme the physiological changes become, and his grip on reality starts to slip away…

The film will be preceded by a talk from Dr Andrea Rinke, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at Kingston University London, who will discuss the film within the wider context of the ‘Drug Experience Film’ mini-genre.
