Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) has a seemingly idyllic lifestyle: a secure job, a loving family and a peaceful home. Yet, unbeknownst to him, his entire existence has been one long TV series, the people around him Hollywood actors, the town a massive studio set, and the whole show orchestrated by a visionary director (Ed Harris)…

Peter Weir, USA 1998, PG, 103mins

“One of the smartest, most inventive movies in memory, it manages to be as endearing as it is provocative.”
Washington Post

“This ingenious satirical comedy drama about media omnipotence is both dazzling and sophisticated from audacious start to poignant finale.”
Radio Times

“One movie you can pronounce a modern classic with absolute confidence.”
Time Out

“A gemlike picture crafted with rare and immaculate precision.”
Variety

“The underlying ideas made the movie more than just entertainment. Like Gattaca, the previous film written by Niccol, it brings into focus the new values that technology is forcing on humanity.”
Roger Ebert

The film will be preceded by a talk from Dr Tony Milligan, teaching fellow in ethics and the philosophy of religion at Kings College London, who will explore the theme that even when technology remains within our control, love stays resistant.
